Exterior work here starts with washing, not with paint, because humidity grows mildew on siding fast and paint will not bond to it — it bonds to the mildew, and then the mildew lets go. After washing comes scraping anything already lifting, spot-priming bare wood so it does not drink the finish coat unevenly, and caulking the joints that opened up over a summer of expansion and contraction.
